Lyn van den Berg, Trotec South Africa sales and marketing director, as well as sales representative Warren Schoeman, gave attendees of their webinar, hosted on 9 July, a greater understanding of the new Q Series laser cutting and engraving machines. A Q400 model was used during the demonstration.
Aside from Austrian quality, the Q400 was designed for those wanting to enter the laser market. Its servo motors are renowned for accuracy, reliability and precision, and its moving parts are encased in Impact Technology, protecting them from dust and debris.
The machine also has removable parts (such as the lens) making it easy to clean, thus ensuring easy and quick maintenance and longer machine life. The aluminium slat table is easy to lift and replace and is easy to be vacuumed underneath.
The machine is safe to operate at home as the laser beam will switch off if the lid is lifted due to the interlock system. The machine also comes with an emergency stop switch, so it can even be operated in a home environment with children present.
The machine comes with Trotec’s JobControl, which includes a material database – i.e. it can ‘read’ materials and determine the laser power required for engraving wood, leather or whatever the material may be. The settings and parameters can also be modified.
The bed of the machine can be lowered and lifted: it can drop low enough to engrave on a wooden wine box or be raised high enough for paper.
The Air Assist features controls the amount of air applied during a job, mostly to prevent flaming, while the beam power can be adjusted by the touch of a button. This is especially useful for the likes of wood as it is a natural and inconsistent material. OptiMotion motion control ensures faster cutting speed. The two speakers concluded that faster speed means making money faster.
