Tilia Labs Introduces Griffin 2.0 Nesting Software

Tilia Labs’ Griffin 2.0 is developed to boost job preparation and nesting productivity with features that facilitate industrialised panelling production and enhance the range of device integration.

Exclusively for large/wide format production requirements, Tilia Griffin is a cross-platform solution designed to provide simplicity for printing and cutting. It offers the ability to search across millions of combinations in minutes to find the most cost-effective, tightly-nested layouts.

With its new Dynamic Tiling feature, Griffin 2.0 now allows tiling to be controlled independently in horizontal and vertical directions to optimise panelling production. Options for specifying tile order, overlaps, gaps, and glue areas can manage how artwork is split into individual tiled pieces, while Griffin 2.0 tiling also supports internal cut lines, allowing the operator to handle multistep panel installations like non-rectangular peel-offs.

The 2.0 release also introduces an Advanced Image Tracing feature enabling automatic generation of tight, precise cutting tool paths at unprecedented speed for cases where no dieline path has been specified in the artwork. It works equally well with artwork imported from image-based formats, PDF, and AI formats. Multiple settings ensure fine-grained control over contour generation, and fast live previews provide the ability to check settings before applying. Image Tracing works well in conjunction with tool path editing in Artwork View to enable final tweaks to the generated tool paths if needed.

Sagen de Jonge, CEO of Tilia Labs said, ’Griffin is well established as a valuable tool for slashing time and costs in wide format production, but there are always more efficiencies to be gained. For this update, we’ve been looking closely at how we can expand the benefits of Griffin to cover many more of the routine production scenarios that might impede overall productivity. A large percentage of jobs are provided to print service providers without adhering to best-practice standards, so our aim is to provide them with capabilities that can compensate for typical variations and non-conformity so that they can gain full advantage of our high-speed Imposition AI.’

Further highlights of Tilia Griffin 2.0 include:

• Remove dielines – for instant removal of dielines from artwork content when exporting for print.
• Multiple shape import functionality – for substantial time savings in instances when designers have created multiple shapes in a single artwork page, typically for multi-piece products such as free-standing display units
.
• Camera mark enhancements – including a new setting to automatically mirror marks between the front and back of the layout for facilitating face-down cutting
.
• Separate single and double sided – a single setting to ensure single- and double-sided items are placed on separate layouts
.
• Improved retina display support – providing a crisper, more visually appealing GUI for Macintosh retina displays.

Griffin is available as a standalone desktop app or as the award-winning Tilia Griffin Pro app from the Enfocus in the Switch App Store. When deployed in Switch workflows, job files can be automatically prepared for print, optimised for large format layouts in Griffin Pro, and queued up for printing on just about any large format press or cutting table.
