The Product of the Year evaluates products that are, or will be, available for sale in 2019. A highly qualified panel of judges from across the printing industry evaluated the annual contest’s 200+ entries in 72 categories spanning analogue, digital, output and non-output technologies. Summa’s L3214 laser cutter convinced the panel with the added value it delivers to customers’ workflow.

Summa’s executive director Wim Maes said, ‘It is a great honour to have received the SGIA Product of the Year Award for our L3214 laser cutter. This large format cutting solution entails just as much game-changing potential for companies in soft signage applications and other fabrics as for interior decorations. The award is a true acknowledgement of our laser cutting technology, which is developed to significantly boost customers’ productivity. For instance, when processing typical jobs, the machine even cuts 400sqm an hour.’

With the L3214 laser cutter, Summa eliminates companies’ struggle with slow conventional knife cutting machines in soft signage applications. Thanks to advanced camera technology and on-the-fly cutting, this laser cutter multiplies the productivity of any other cutting solution in the market.

The L3214 can be considered a true game-changer in the processing of textiles. With the advanced camera technology, the cutter continuously scans the material design and is able to automatically convert it into a cutting vector. While the next part is being scanned in, the laser is cutting simultaneously. This on-the-fly cutting concept is making the L3214 a uniquely productive solution in the market. It saves the operator a considerable amount of valuable time without compromising on quality.

Even at its high production speed, which is characteristic for the L3214, Summa is still able to maintain the high standards for accuracy. A motorised de-reeler makes sure there is no fabric distortion or fraying while cutting. The system secures a constant and stable fabric feed onto the vacuumed cutting bed.
