Sign-Tronic will showcase the Canon Oce Colorado 1640 printer, Obelisk 2D foam cutter, swissQprint Nyala high-end flatbed printer 4×4 and new UV ink at the Sign Africa Cape Town Expo, taking place 14-15 March at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

Canon Oce Colorado 1640

The revolutionary roll-to-roll printer with unique UVgel technology ensures vibrant and beautiful colour. This advanced graphics printing system will help deliver real production efficiency while lowering print service providers’ operating costs, enabling them to profitably grow their businesses. Canon’s UVgel print technology allows customers to compete in a market where jobs need to be turned around in 24 hours or the same day.

Obelisk 2D foam cutter

The Obelisk 2D foam cutter allows sign makers to produce completely illuminated 3D foam signage or letters with a brilliant finish made from XPS foam, a locally manufactured polystyrene for insulation. The company will exhibit how to make amazing 3D styrofoam illuminated letters, signage and decorative elements with the plotter.

Using a UV flatbed printer, users can simply print directly onto the 10mm foam, cut it out on the Obelisk with perfect precision and coat the 3D letters in a unique, liquid XPS coating for a high gloss, protective finish. The coating gives longevity and shields the signage. There is a five year warranty on signage with the coating. The 3D sign is ready for mounting after a simple three component assembly with quick-set adhesives.

This patented process is the brainchild of Sign-Tronic’s Adrian Wolman, who understood that the full potential of the Obelisk had not been unleashed. The popularity of this solution is a minimum of 65% saving in producing illuminated signage and there is no barrier to entry. Users can rent an Obelisk monthly for a very affordable amount and it is a great addition to grow a business with a UV flatbed printer.

New UV ink

A challenge for printers has been trying to achieve the same results as traditional time consuming processes of printing with UV on natural fabrics. The new formulation of UV ink, developed and patented by Wolman, overcomes this challenge.
Absorbing static and securing the fabric in place through the print process is a major benefit of the UV ink combined with the unique roll to roll swissQprint system that has a carbon brush tensioning roller. This specific roller absorbs static and secures the warp and the weft of the fabric – ensuring stability.
Further benefits of the UV ink is that it produces no cracks due to it’s flexibility. There are no added process costs and it can be used on the swissQprint and other UV printers.
Additionally, the company will demonstrate textile printing with the swissQprint Nyala 4×4 on its stand. The increased demand for textile applications proves no challenge for swissQprint. Print service providers can print directly onto uncoated textiles instead of using a two-stage sublimation process and without the need for expensive inks. The UV inks cure under both mercury vapour lamps and with the new swissQprint LED systems and deliver excellent print quality, consistent colour and image brilliance on a range of textiles.
