After the success of last year’s fundraiser, Sign Africa Expo organisers Practical Publishing, once again took up the challenge and stepped up for charity at the Sign Africa Johannesburg Expo.
Each Practical Publishing team member wore a pedometer at this year’s Johannesburg expo and pledged one cent to charity for every step taken. This year over 1,6 million steps were taken by our team and the following companies that took up the challenge – Be Bold, Inhouse Logistics and Exhibitions, Konica Minolta South Africa, Lodge Security and Oasys Exhibitions. A big thank you to these companies for their support!
The proceeds of R16k will be donated to the Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon, National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) and the Dullstroom Bird of Prey & Rehabilitation Centre.
Practical Publishing supports the Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon in their efforts to raise funds for the National Sea Rescue Institute. The NSRI and Rotary have had a long and fruitful relationship and the Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon will once again be holding their annual NSRI Wine Auction on the 9th October 2013, at the Balalaika Hotel in Sandton. The 2013 Rotary Wine Auction has promised to try raise R250 000 towards the essential funding needed for the permanent NSRI Station building at Yzerfontein on the Cape West Coast; a rescue project worth R1.2 million.
The Yzerfontein NSRI Station will become the home for the dedicated and highly trained volunteer crew, who desperately need a secure space to house and protect the rescue craft and a place from which to run and manage rescue calls and operations to save lives. At present this crew is operating out of the temporary shelter of a few containers.
NSRI is manned by 980 volunteers at 32 bases around the coast and on 3 inland dams. Donations, bequests and sponsorships cover the annual running cost of R25m. The volunteers save NSRI a salary bill in excess of R250m per annum. NSRI began in 1967 – as a humanitarian service, at no charge to the public. Their assets include 92 rescue boats of various sizes and 27 4 x 4 rescue vehicles.
