Roland DG Corporation hosted the bi-annual Global Service Engineers Awards competition at its Hamamatsu, Japan, headquarters from 20-22 October 2015 with Roland DG certified service engineers from around the globe competing for the prestigious title of World Champion.
In a company where customer service and support, under the RolandCare umbrella, is paramount, the competition offered even more chances to show why RolandCare engineers are widely considered the best in the industry. With initial rounds of the competition held in each territory, 449 certified Service Engineers competed for the chance to attend the final leg of challenges in Japan, the home of Roland DG Corporation. 21 exemplary finalists across the world were then selected for the final competition.
David Edgecombe from Keymark Media Johannesburg was crowned the African winner after having defeated the challenges set out for him. He represented Africa in Japan for the ultimate title of Roland Global Service Engineer of the Year 2015.
For Roland DG UK, the winner of the local competition was Phil Livesey, who fought off the competition to win first place using skills honed through ten years of engineering experience on Large Format Printers. Livesey said, ‘It was absolutely fantastic to win the local competition, and I can’t wait to find out what I’m up against at the global event; Roland DG offers such a full program of training and certification for their engineers worldwide that I know it’s going to be tough.’
The format of the Global SE Awards consisted of three challenges taking place over two days, including replacing inkjet heads in the company’s wide format inkjet printers, repairing broken machines, and taking a comprehensive written exam that tests participants’ knowledge of maintenance services. On the third day finalists attended an awards ceremony, during which the 2015 World Champion was announced.
