Project Of The Week- SIGNS360

SIGNS360 recently completed a signage project for Seven Seas Fisheries Food Emporium, based on 14th Avenue in Fairlands, Randburg.

The company was tasked with cladding the entrance portal for Seven Seas Fisheries. The project consisted of structural cladding, followed by 3D fabricated letters onto the cladding. The cladding was an intricate job that required a lot of planning, measurements, and design work. The design work was done in Adobe Illustrator.

‘We then proceeded by installing an aluminium sub-frame structure all around the areas we were to clad. Once we were happy with the overall sub-structure, we took final measurements and tweaked the design files where necessary,’ said the company’s Mario Combrink.

The materials used were ACM/Dibond sheeting. The cladding consisted of 30 sheets of ACM. All panels were V-Cut via the company’s CNC router, then bent into panels used for cladding. They reinforced the panels with aluminium angles. The cladding and sub-structure took them about two weeks from manufacturing to installation.

‘We are a young, vibrant and dynamic company that always strives for excellent quality. We are continuously exploring new methods of manufacturing and playing around with materials to break the mould of old traditional signage,’ added Combrink.

‘With regards to signage, the client has been in the area for many years. When they moved premises, they decided to freshen up their logo and along with input from the client, we designed their new logo. The logo stretched 11500mm across, and measured 1500mm high.’

The 3D fabricated lettering was made up of opal acrylic faces, and the blue marlin has blue pre-pigmented vinyl applied to the faces. The returns were fabricated out of 100mm returns that are 0.9mm thick. The returns were bent using an automatic letter bending machine. All these letters where internally illuminated using 3 module LED’s placed on 10mm foamboard backing.

The 3D fabricated letters took them two days to complete as this included the CNC cutting, bending, gluing, sticking of LED’s and gluing on the letters. Installation and connection took them about half a day.
