Printing SA Hosts Successful Annual Chamber Events

Sign Africa, Africa Print and Modern Marketing were the proud media partners for Printing SA events hosted for its respective chambers in 2022.

KwaZulu-Natal Annual Dinner

The KwaZulu-Natal Chamber closed out its year in opulence at the Annual Dinner held at Gateway Hotel on 27 October 2022. The event was attended by 165 guests, welcomed by pre-drinks and old-time business networking at its best. The ‘Back to Print’ theme was a bit of a tough ask for the industry’s fashionistas this year, but the creativity of the industry flowed extravagantly with a splurge of shimmer and innovative ensembles worn by members.

The evening was held together by the comedy of Durban’s Aaron Mcilroy and sounds of 5th Season Jazz, and included the recognition of top achieving apprentices, regional executive committee members and Printing SA members for their unwavering support throughout the year. The evening was a celebration of the resilience and optimistic future of the industry. The event was sponsored by Fujifilm, Kyocera, Impress Print, Proprint and Nuprint.

Central and Northern Chamber CEO’s Lunch and Printing SA National AGM – 9 November 2022

Printing SA’s Central and Northern Chambers collaborated in hosting a CEO’s lunch followed by Printing SA National AGM. Keynote speaker, David Shapiro – Deputy Chairperson at SASFIN, unpacked the current state of the global and local economy.

Printing SA Reports Back On Annual Chamber Events

He highlighted some trends that have led to the foreseeable global recession because of Covid-19 and the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. He however reiterated that we should experience a recovery in the economic outlook in South Africa come 2023. He said we will have political certainty after the December ANC elective conference, where the President of the party will be elected as well as the national executive committee. He also highlighted that projections are for minor interest rate hikes in the first quarter of 2023, however growth is expected across the mining and manufacturing sectors, which are the two major sectors driving the South African economy.

The Printing SA National AGM followed the presentation, where a keynote address was given by president Leal Wright, who highlighted some of the challenges faced by Printing SA and the industry as a whole in the past two years.

He also mentioned some of the achievements that the federation attained in the past two years, most notably the support given to members in assisting with navigating the numerous legislation that members needed to understand in order to operate during the pandemic, as well as the successful training programmes that moved to an online environment, allowing for Printing SA courses to still run during the lockdowns both locally and internationally. In particular, these include the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and the Colour Management courses, which ran in Spain, Croatia and other countries around the world through the various FESPA Associations.

‘We were proud to once again host Shapiro at our CEO’s lunch. Members were given great insights into the future of the South African and global economy and the outlook is positive,’ said Printing SA marketing manager Abisha Katerere.

The event was sponsored by Fujifilm, Kyocera and SASFIN.

Cape Chamber Annual Dinner

After a two-year enforced hiatus, due to the Covid pandemic, the Printing SA Cape Chamber was back in style on 18 November 2022, with one of its most popular events of the year – the Annual Gala Dinner. This gathering brought together members and non-members of the industry to celebrate the evening in style.

Over 170 people attended the event at the Belmont Conference Centre, Rondebocsh, Cape Town, for an evening of awards being given to Printing SA’s TT3 students from 2020/21, a farewell speech by CEO Dr Abdool Majid Mahomed, who encapsulated Director for Training and Development Ken Leids’ 40 year plus career in the industry, and the transformation that he has brought to Printing SA’s training curriculum over the years.

This was coupled with performances from the youth of the Mitchell’s Plain Music Academy. Members enjoyed snapping group photos at the photo booth and some of the more stylish and suave guests were awarded prizes for best dressed on the night, and those who didn’t win had a chance to walk away with something on the night following the lucky draw.

Before guests took to the dance floor, Ian Miller and Rodney Brown from the Siyazana Youth Development auctioned off some memorabilia in aid of their organisation, which is run solely by volunteers in the Western Cape to promote a holistic approach to the daily challenges through various channels such as education, nutrition and life skills, acknowledging these spheres are intertwined, the one dependent on the other. Proceeds from the auction will go towards building two ECD libraries in communities around the Cape Town region.

Cape Chamber Manager, Danielle Arendorf, capped off the night with a sincere vote of thanks to the guests in attendance, sponsors and the Printing SA team for having created an event that no doubt has set the benchmark for next year’s event. The event was sponsored by Fujifilm, Kyocera and Trident Press.
