Dr Abdool Majid Mahomed has been appointed as the new CEO of Printing SA. The change in leadership will not affect the vision of the organisation, which was successfully established 108 years ago, and whose aim it is to render superior service to all its members in being both the voice for the industry and providing various value-added offerings and services.
The Board of Printing SA noted both Dr Mahomed’s academic qualifications and extensive experience in the industry, which stretches over a 30 year period. He takes over the position from Steve Thobela who had been at the helm for five years.
Dr Mahomed was the head of a Professional Body for the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply, in which he managed membership drives across SADC countries, encouraged registration into one of five study programmes pitched at levels 3 to 8 on the NQF, and managed relationships with SAQA in securing recognition as a Professional Body, and with QCTO in terms of new curriculum development.
Prior to that, he served as the Operations Manager in charge of a complex supply chain of study materials planning, printing and distribution for the largest open, distance-learning university in the African continent, UNISA. He played the role of an Executive Director on the senior executive management team for ten years. Prior to that, he served as a senior communications specialist at the Head Office of the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), after having taught languages at school and adult level.
Innovation and improved service delivery will continue to be Printing SA’s hallmarks, and the organisation hopes to take these to even greater heights under his leadership.
