November 1’s enterprise development programme is supporting small business owners. The branding specialist has helped Charles Kamwana, a talented tailor, to set up his business.

Kamwana became part of the November 1 enterprise development programme at the end of 2011. At the time he was working as a clothing adjuster at a dry cleaner, now he has his own tailor shop and a staff of three.

‘We saw this as a great opportunity to support someone in starting up his own business,’ said Chantelle Zeelie, social investment project leader at November 1. ‘After a three-month process, and a few hiccups on the admin side, Charles set up shop in Joburg’s CBD. He has already supplied a few big orders during the five months since he started trading.’

‘It’s a great honour to be able to help someone as humble as Charles,’ added Grant Potgieter, November 1 managing director. ‘We assisted in the set up of his business and with the branding of his premises. We are continuing to support Charles with business development advice and funding, and will assimilate him into the November 1 supply chain. We believe continuing support will aid Charles’ success and that this supports the intended purpose of enterprise development.’

‘It is one of November 1’s mandates: to create opportunities for people. We believe Charles is already well on his way to creating a successful, sustainable business,’ concluded Potgieter.
