Metro Plastics Showcased ACRYLUX Premium Cast Acrylic Range

Metro Plastics Showcased its ACRYLUX products at the Sign Africa Expo in Durban, which was held from 13-14 March at the Durban ICC.

ACRYLUX is a premium cast acrylic range used by top acrylic fabricators, signage companies and shopfitters around the world.

Distributed in KwaZulu-Natal by Metro Plastics, this top-quality range includes clear, opals, colours, ‘twin colour’, high-impact, aquarium grade and many other new products which are already making a big impact in the South African market. ACRYLUX products carry the highest international UV warranty.

During the expo, the company’s Kuben Pakkri outlined the many features of ACRYLUX, which he said can also be used for unique applications, such as aquariums, frontals for rimless swimming pools and point of sale (POS) signage, as well as for the furniture and balustrade industry.

‘Instead of using glass, we use ACRYLUX. I have it in my own house for my balustrades. It costs almost half the price of glass. It also looks better than glass, it can be recycled, it is not as heavy as glass and it is not as dangerous as glass. When glass shatters, you can get injured, whereas with ACRYLUX you don’t.’

Cast acrylic is very versatile and because it’s rimless, users don’t see any joins. There is a 30 year warranty on clear ACRYLUX and a ten-year warranty on the colours. Colours are consistent for light box applications, and can be printed on directly, as well as routed and can be cut, engraved, laser cut and plasma cut.

There are many product options for those in the professional DIY, fabrication, building and glazing industries. Many big brands are using the product too. The ‘twin-colour’ product for example is black at face value, but turns white when lit up at night, giving users a day-night function.

ACRYLUX is very commonly used with all flatbed printers as it prints perfectly. With ACRYLUX, colours are more vibrant. Most other products contain recycled components whereas ACRYLUX is a virgin material. It is also backed by all the necessary warranties and is currently being tested with SABS to get South African accreditation.

Metro Plastics has a showroom at 43 Livingstone Road in Pinetown, which is open to the public. ‘We have many options for visitors to look at. We can showcase how ACRYLUX is laser cut, CNC cut, and how to bend it or how to glue it, if need be. Most companies that are working with it know the various applications, but we can also advise how to do things better with the product.’
