Metamark Vinyl Used For Stained Glass Look

Metamark MD3 digital vinyl was used for a project that required a stained glass effect. MD3 features a high level of performance for medium-term applications including point of sale, signage, exhibition and display, vehicle graphics and applications onto most flat or gently curved surfaces.

Autoskinz was approached by a customer who wanted a stained glass window to be inserted into a wall dividing a reception area and living room. Having investigated the artisan route, and being scared off by the price of lead, solder and glass, the customer investigated other avenues and had almost committed to having a painted job – then someone suggested printing.

Autoskinz jumped to it and the first job was investigating the customer’s subject matter preference. A stylised elephant was chosen and this was followed by an involved and detailed editing session to give the base art the right look and feel.

The result was to be applied to a simple glass pane and so needed all the ‘detail’ to be included in the origination. The Autoskinz team went to great lengths to ensure the colours would be rendered so as not to wash out as changing lighting conditions during the day and evening moved the goalposts from reception to living room.

The end result works no matter what the prevailing light does to challenge it. It’s expertly printed on Metamark MD3 Clear and saturated. The MD3 handles the ink load without protest. Autoskinz has since had enquiries from others who want the same treatment delivered for other projects.
