Metamark Films Create Graphics And Signage For Wildlife Project

Metamark Etch films and other materials from the brand were used to draw attention to a good cause: a marine wildlife project.

The future of lobster fishing in the UK is being protected by an enterprise in Whitby, The Whitby Lobster Hatchery, that aims to release 100,000 ‘stage four’ lobsters into the waters off the Yorkshire coast and beyond. These lobsters will have much better odds of survival than those developing from eggs in the wild thanks to their size and relative maturity. It’s hoped the endeavour will boost the lobster population and create a larger breeding base that reverses dwindling stocks.

The process starts with local fishermen, whose bycatch includes lobsters, bringing females to The Lobster Hatchery where they’re kept safe from marauding marine predators and eventually release eggs. The eggs are then developed to the point where young juveniles mature and can then be released.

The Hatchery has opened its doors to the visiting public and become one of Whitby’s most popular attractions, delivering entertainment and education while getting on with its very worthwhile mission.

Visitor attractions have a big an appetite for quality signs, graphics and ambient décor and the Whitby Lobster Hatchery is no exception. The job of provisioning all the graphics and signage The Hatchery needed fell to Vinyl Signs Whitby.

Design of the graphics and branding elements that Vinyl Signs Whitby produced and installed was prescribed by The Hatchery, leaving the team at Vinyl Signs to handle editing and production before getting down to the considerable task of installing the whole programme.

The programme comprised etch effect graphics deployed widely on glazed surfaces and extensive wall graphics. Metamark Etch films were used for the logos andMD5A-B was elected for the wall graphics. A lot of the wall graphics’ content is educational and so involves a lot of close-quarters examination. The printing is flawless and the Metamark MG-702 Matt Laminate used to protect the print makes the graphics easily readable in difficult lighting. Elsewhere, cut and applied lettering was used, again Matt, and this time Metamark M7 SignVinyl was used for the cut and applied application.

The whole programme contributes powerfully to The Hatchery’s identity and reflects the high standards of finishing needed to give public attractions the presence they need.
