Kingsley Holgate Discusses Adventures And Outreach In Africa At the Sign Africa & FESPA Africa Expo

Humanitarian and adventurer, Kingsley Holgate, gave a talk on the Sign-Tronic stand on the 12 September at the 2024 Sign Africa and FESPA Africa Expo. Holgate was invited to speak about his work and collaboration with Sign-Tronic and swissQprint, including delivering mosquito nets to combat malaria, as well as school signage and animal cut outs for children that were made from recycled materials and offcuts from Sign-Tronic’s print and cut projects.

Holgate is a renowned South African explorer and conservationist often referred to as the ‘most travelled man in Africa’. Known for his adventurous spirit and philanthropy, he has undertaken numerous expeditions across the African continent, combining exploration with efforts to uplift communities. His initiatives focus on providing humanitarian aid, such as distributing reading glasses to remote areas through the ‘right to sight’ programme, supporting education, and addressing water scarcity. Holgate is also deeply involved in wildlife conservation, using his journeys to raise awareness about protecting Africa’s natural heritage. Holgate inspires others to embrace adventure while making a difference.

During his talk, Holgate regaled the attendees of the Sign Africa Expo with his travels in Africa, sharing his experiences about near death encounters with war lords and playing practical jokes on the CEO of Nando’s. He discussed the joy he felt when seeing school children’s eyes light up the first time they saw their school’s name printed in large white lettering on the outside of their school building. He provided hope by mentioning how far we have come in decreasing the malaria mortality rate, and he showed many in attendance how easy it can be to change someone’s life, as a mere pair of reading glasses might restore someone’s sight and their independence in a community.

Through his many trials and triumphs into Africa, it is clear that Holgate’s testimony of his relationship with the signage industry is one of true adventure.

The event was sponsored by Platinum sponsors Roland DG South Africa and Stixo Signage Supplies.
