Kevin Bierman, Head of Digital Signage at Moving Tactics, discusses emerging trends in the digital signage industry based on his attendance at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2025, an audiovisual (AV) and systems integration exhibition, held in Spain. He said this year’s biggest takeaway was the shift towards more intelligent, connected, and data-driven digital signage experiences, creating deeper audience engagement.
‘Once again, ISE proved to be a groundbreaking experience, demonstrating the accelerating pace of digital signage innovation,’ said Bierman. He highlighted key industry trends shaping the future of digital signage, including AI-powered content management, Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) integration, and real-time data-driven signage solutions.
‘The industry is rapidly evolving towards integration, interactivity, and intelligence – leveraging AI, data analytics, and the Internet of Things (IoT) to enhance customer experiences,’ he explained. ‘These innovations are set to revolutionise digital signage, offering new opportunities for more personalised and immersive audience interactions.’
Among the standout technologies at ISE 2025, Bierman noted the emergence of interactive and immersive displays using sensor technology, transparent and flexible LED displays, and real-time data-driven solutions for optimised content delivery. ‘One particularly impressive development was the advancement in full sensor integration and live data analytics, which now provides businesses with real-time insights to support informed decision-making,’ he added.
A highlight of the event was Sensmi, an in-store data analytics platform that transforms real-time data into actionable insights on customer behaviour and product interactions through a cloud-based dashboard.
‘Sensmi bridges the gap between online and traditional retail, equipping brick-and-mortar retailers with the same level of analytical capabilities as e-commerce platforms,’ said Bierman. ‘Experiencing first-hand how Sensmi has evolved with new interactive and sensory technologies was invaluable. ISE 2025 allowed us to strengthen our collaboration with Sensmi and explore ways to further integrate sensory solutions with digital signage, delivering more personalised and immersive retail experiences.’
Bierman also emphasised the importance of scalable, flexible, and cloud-based solutions for emerging markets such as South Africa. ‘Solutions with seamless integration, intuitive interfaces, and cloud-based management stand out as ideal for regions where affordability and ease of implementation are key considerations,’ he concluded.
