Intamarket Graphics And Avery Dennison Wrap A Kitchen For Charity

1121

The signage industry has been attending the FESPA Africa and Sign Africa event for years and have seen a great deal of vehicles, bikes and car doors being wrapped to showcase the capabilities of both material and installer. This year, the Intamarket Graphics team decided to take it a step further. Instead of wrapping a vehicle for advertising purposes only, the company, in cooperation with Avery Dennison South Africa, wrapped a complete kitchen that will be donated to the Old Oak Hospice Diverse (West Rand). In this way, the company could showcase not only the capabilities of different types of vinyl and substrates, but we will be giving back to the community.

ABOUT HOSPICE

The Hospice in Krugersdorp used to be known as Hospice of the West, but was liquidated in 2015. In 2016, Ina Meiring got a donation of a house to re-open the hospice in Krugersdorp and has been working incredibly hard to get it up and running again. She first changed the name to the Old Oak Hospice Diverse (West Rand). The name has a very special meaning to her and ties in with the famous song from Tony Orlando, 'Tie A Yellow Ribbon'. The Old Oak Tree is also a very familiar sight in the Krugersdorp and West Rand area.

When asked why she became involved with the project, Ina said, 'My Spirit wants me to open hospice'. Ina has an absolute passion for working with patients, especially those who are in their final days and who only want to leave this earth with dignity and comfort. In her own words, 'I am not doing it for myself, I am doing it for the dignity of these people in their final days. This Hospice started out of chaos and is growing into something beautiful by creating structure out of the chaos.'

Ina is also an advocate for patient rights and a lot of her work involves advising patients on their rights and the next steps after hospitals cannot take care of them anymore. Although Hospice Old Oak is already operating with at-home services, it will officially open its doors to the public on the third of September 2016.

Hospice is an institution that is built by the community for the community and it relies heavily on contributions and donations from businesses and individuals to keep it up and running. Both businesses and the community have already opened their pockets and hearts for the Hospice Old Oak. Plascon has donated all the paint for the interior and exterior of the house and the learners from Monument High School have donated their time to do the painting.

Daan Piek, owner of Value Cupboard West Rand, has donated and installed all the built-in cupboards for the various rooms and Intamarket Graphics and Avery Dennison will install a beautiful kitchen after FESPA Africa and Sign Africa 2016. They have also received donations of furniture, bedding and curtains.

The Hospice house consists of two patient rooms, a large living area that can be utilised for daily activities such as speakers coming in to host talks for the patients, a counselling room, the kitchen and an office. Hospice is the only palliative care centre that cares for patients with dignity and compassion. Even though the medical aids will pay for the care of the patients, not all can afford this, and this is where the community involvement becomes imperative.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

Ina is also planning to expand Hospice Old Oak Diverse to Randfontein and Fochville. The West Rand is a very large area and all the space possible is needed to assist all the people in need of palliative care. Other plans include opening their own charity shop to sell the donated items that they are not able to use themselves to generate funds and perhaps a weekend craft market.

HOW CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE:

Intamarket Graphics and Avery Dennison has opened the doors for the signage community to get involved and some of the things that would help include:
• A wooden house for the charity shop, i.e. a Wendy House. There is enough space in the garden to erect such a structure.
• Vinyl floor laminate for the beautiful wooden floors to keep it sterile and make it easy to clean.
• Bedding, food and clothes.
• People: they need as many people as possible to volunteer their time and to give from their hearts.

Over time, with the help of the community and businesses Hospice Old Oak Diverse (West Rand) can built into a haven for those living out their last days of life.
