Johannesburg based branding specialists, ImageBuild, recently used ORAFOL® 3967AC Aircraft Graphic Film, which is specially designed for aircraft branding, and ORAGUARD® 293AC lamination film, to brand three LIFT aeroplanes.
The application of the aeroplane branding took around three days to complete, as there were many checks and regulation standards to abide by.
Grant Page, Managing Director of ImageBuild, said that post-Covid stock was a big issue, not only in South Africa, but worldwide, so they had to research vinyl brands to see who manufactured a product similar to what they usually used. They then chose ORAFOL®. ‘We went through all the regulation checks and specifications, as well as conducting actual test reports by the manufacturer, and the results (on ORAFOL®’s product) were fantastic. The product is brilliant — it was very nice to work with.’
ORAJET® 3967AC Aircraft Graphic Film is a white perforated Premium Cast PVC film with a glossy surface for short-term outdoor graphic applications on the exterior of aircrafts. The aircraft deco solution includes ORAJET® 3967AC matched up with the special lamination film ORAGUARD® 293AC. Both films come with a perforated structure to enable an easy and bubble-free installation of large sized decals on the aircraft. Being a PVC based film, ORAJET® 3967AC comes with very good printing properties, as well as being very conformable in application.
With the ORAGUARD® 293AC lamination film, retention of the gloss is ensured in a far more effective way than with a clear coating, and formation of cracks in the surface is prevented.
Wrapping aeroplanes is a major task. ‘The biggest challenge we faced was working at height with harnesses on a special crane used for aeroplanes, which is slightly different to wrapping our large Catamarans. The next biggest challenge was the production of the graphics, as they are very large, and given the cost of the media, one cannot face any mistakes. Load shedding didn’t help either,’ said Page.
‘However, having been in the industry for 20 years now, we are always faced with some type of challenge, and if you can’t overcome it, you don’t get the job done, so we do what it takes to get it done. Being able to provide wraps and branding to the aviation industry is definitely a highlight for our company, and something we are very proud of.’
