HP announces brand new innovations.

The HP PageWide T1190 and HP PageWide T1170, HP’s two new six-colour PageWide ultra high-volume inkjet web presses for pre-print corrugated packaging, offer higher productivity and quality.

The new flagship PageWide T1190 press offers 67% more throughput productivity compared with the current PageWide T1100S, delivering up to 305 metres per minute (1000 linear feet per minute) in six colours at full press speed. The addition of six-colour printing (CMYKOV) also expands the colour gamut for matching colours, opening new digital possibilities for brands, including short-runs, faster turnaround time and versioning.

FESPA 2018

HP presented its six-colour PageWide print samples for the first time in the Corrugated Experience Centre.

These ultra-wide 2.8m (110-inch) Thermal Inkjet technology web presses are ideal for packaging converters seeking analogue-to-digital transformation with high-volume productivity in offset quality for pre-print corrugated packaging applications.

Additionally, the presses use HP A30 true water-based inks, containing no UV-reactive chemistries, and requiring no additional barriers for food packaging applications (1).

Italy’s Ghelfi Ondulati S.p.A. installed a PageWide T1100S in the summer of 2016, and is now upgrading to the PageWide T1170. ‘The new six-colour capability of the PageWide T1170 Press will allow us to address a broader colour gamut to help meet the rigorous colour demands of southern Europe’s leading brands,’ said Luca Simoncini, digital programme manager, Ghelfi Ondulati S.p.A.. ‘This colour extension will allow us to open new opportunities, with virtually no quality obstacles.’

The PageWide T1170 Press prints 183 metres per minute (600 linear feet per minute) in six colours, compared with four-colour printing at the same speed on the PageWide T1100S.

Both the T1170 and T1190 presses are suitable for both coated and uncoated media, from 80gsm to 350gsm. Additionally, HP Multi-lane Print Architecture (MLPA) boosts plant productivity by splitting the web into multiple print lanes, so different jobs, with different box sizes and run lengths, can be printed in the individual lanes. Multiple ultra-short or short runs can be queued and printed together while a long run is printed in another lane.

The first PageWide T1190 Press will be a field upgrade to the T1100S that DS Smith is installing in its Fulda, Germany plant. ‘The T1190’s industry-leading 6-colour, high-speed digital pre-print system will enable new efficiencies for our customers,’ said Stefano Rossi, CEO, DS Smith Packaging. ‘Plus, with our new six-colour capability, we will expand our gamut and create even greater digital value for brands.’

‘We are proud to deliver field upgrades to the PageWide T1100 Press Series just two years after installing the first press with DS Smith Packaging,’ said Eric Wiesner, general manager, PageWide Industrial division, HP Inc. ‘HP’s unique digital pre-print technology continues to disrupt the corrugated package market, driving greater business efficiency for converters and their brands.’

HP’s digital pre-print solution helps corrugated converters reduce inventory and accelerate turnaround time, while also enabling more flexibility and smaller order quantities.

(1) HP A30 Water-Based Inks and HP A50 Water-Based Bonding Agent are intended for printing on the external side of corrugated packaging. HP Statement of Composition, 3rd party (Intertek) Worldwide Statement of Regulatory Listing and 3rd party (Swiss Quality Testing Services) General Statement of Migration and Organoleptic Assessment are available. Based on Representative Use Cases, which include E-Flute packaging printed on external side. US terminology: ‘packaging materials in direct contact with food’ is analogous to ‘primary packaging’. HP DesignJet Z Printer series

HP announces brand new innovations.

Also unveiled at FESPA was the new DesignJet Z Printer series.

The market for large photo merchandising grew seven percent in 2017 (1) with nearly 1.3 trillion photos taken in the same year (2). The demand for simplicity and unrivalled photo quality is growing, fuelling the need for printing solutions that remove bottlenecks and increase time savings.

The new HP DesignJet Z6 and Z9+ Printer series is designed to easily maximise printing performance for amazing photo output. By tightly integrating the materials, hardware and software together, the new printers offer amazing photo quality and print permanence with fewer inks to simplify manageability and reduce costs. The new vertical trimmer is featured on select models to optimise output in addition to other innovative technologies for rapid high-quality production from professional photo quality prints to retailer signage. The result is printing that is 2.5 times faster (3) and post-production 20 percent faster (4).

‘The new DesignJet Z Printer series radically enhances the customer experience and reinvents printing possibilities for both professional photo and signage to ignite business growth and adapt to future needs,’ said Guayente Sanmartin, General Manager and Global Head, HP Large Format Design Printing, HP Inc. ‘We thoughtfully designed the new printers to deliver impressive photo quality without compromising time resources and output speeds with the new vertical trimmer and innovative colour technologies.’

HP DesignJet Z Printer series are built to give PSPs a competitive edge by enabling the fastest printing capabilities available on the market today. As an industry first, the HP DesignJet Z6 and Z9+ offer a premium option with onboard vertical trimmer for fast and efficient production. New colour technology, HP Pixel Control, now for the first time manages colours in a truly digital way to help customers embrace new opportunities for colour-rich and dynamic printing.

Availability (5)

The HP DesignJet Z6, Z6x10, and Z9+ Printers are expected to be available on June 1 2018. The 111.7cm (44 inch) HP DesignJet Z6 and Z9+ with dual roll and vertical trimmer are expected to be available on July 1 2018.

Upcoming FESPA events include FESPA Africa, the region’s largest, focused exhibition for wide format digital printing, screen printing, garment decoration and textile printing, which is co-located with Sign Africa and Africa Print, the region’s leading events for the signage industry. The event is taking place from 12-14 September 2018 at Gallagher Convention Centre, Johannesburg.
