Fujifilm Graphic Systems South Africa, in collaboration with its partners in Turkey, held a virtual launch of the MEJET 6090UV LED UV flatbed printer at the Fujifilm Innovation Centre Africa in Johannesburg.
General manager Grant Potgieter said, ‘With the MEJET 6090UV, we think we have found something exciting that will revolutionise and re-ignite your business.’ As a smaller machine, it is considered ideal for any business environment that has limited floor space, as well as for smaller signage, corporate gifting and promo-house businesses.
Product manager Anja Kirton outlined the many innovative features of the machine, while senior technician Gabriel Naidoo conducted a demonstration. ‘If dynamite comes in small packages, the MEJET is definitely going to explode with opportunities,’ said Naidoo.
Kirton outlined some of the main features:
– Uvijet inks, with Greenguard certification.
– The ability to print on flexible and rigid substrates.
– Automatic material height sensor for flat sheets.
– Anti-crash sensor to protect printheads.
– Long life UV LED lamps (with up to 10 000 working hours).
– Print speeds up to 33sqm/h.
During Naidoo’s demonstration, he highlighted the machine’s two vacuum zones, emergency switch, cleaning functions, dual UV lamps and temperature system, which warms up inks so that they jet optimally, as well as coolants for the LED system.
Key to the machine is cylindrical printing, which allows for quick, high resolution and customisable printing on cylindrical shaped objects such as bottles. Additionally, direct-to-object allows for the freedom to print on just about any object, including the likes of powerbanks and notebooks as well as materials such as wood and foamboard. The flatter the surface, the better.
Further demonstrations were done to show the varying configurations for which the machine allows, such as the ability to add additional printheads. The machine can also be upgraded to higher speeds. White and clear ink allows for label printing, and there is also the feature of jig printing on pens.
Guest speaker Kerem Ege, sales and business development manager, Fujifilm Graphic Systems Turkey, described how over the past year the company had installed 28 MEJET 6090UV units. He said customer feedback was good and that the range of customers include: promotions, photo shops, offset and label businesses, some of which like to print on book covers, while others wish to print on rigid materials or wall art. The best customer case was a photo shop business whose sales increased in such a big way that it is planning on an additional investment.
