Pierre Alberts of Puma Printing collected his STAHLS’ Hot Berry heat press, which was the first place prize for entrants who submitted the best original ’Graphics, Print and Sign’ themed design for the FALCON SA T-Shirt Design competition.

People could vote for their favourite design on the FALCON SA stand at this year’s Graphics, Print and Sign expo, held at Gallagher Convention Centre from 14-16 September.

‘This heat press will come in handy, especially for smaller garments’, said Alberts. These include, for example, the plaque of golf shirts, while ensuring no buttons are under the press, which he will mainly use for sleeves and collars.

He was inspired to create a pixel design, with CMYK as a complement to the design, for the competition. ‘The moment I started designing, everything came to light. If I didn’t register for the expo I wouldn’t have received the email for the competition,’ said Alberts.

The second place winner is Loren Fisher from P3 Printing, who won a R1500 FALCON SA voucher.

Caroline Coetzee of Secunda Signs came in third place and won a R1000 FALCON SA voucher. She said the inspiration for her design was the power of graphics and printing: ‘I was mostly playing around, during a five minute coffee break. It was for fun, because with the real clients it’s more intense.’

Thomas Smith, FALCON SA’s Regional Sales Manager, Gauteng, said, ‘With the overall designs everyone was quite creative, it was different from design to design. I think the designs that made it into the final selection all stuck to the brief. There were good responses from our stand visitors, as well as with the social media likes, so I was quite impressed with that.’

Smith outlined the benefits of the STAHLS’ Hot Berry heat press: ‘The press is an entry level press in the STAHLS’ range. It’s a very good press for smaller items, like golf shirts etc. where you don’t have to press onto the buttons of the shirts. Now Alberts can start making his own baby range of clothing with that press. He can also build his business with the heat press and materials.’

‘We’ve run the competition for the second year in a row. We’ve been receiving good responses on that and its good for us to partner with our customers. Coetzee is one of our customers in the Secunda region so her voucher will go onto her account as a credit. Whatever amount she’s getting, she can hopefully multiply by ten in new business.’
