Earlier in March this year, Exion Corporation offered LED, SMPS (switching mode power supply) and basic signage training to ten promising young people living in the Diepsloot area.
Through a simple assessment process of more than 20 applicants, 10 were selected for the training, which ran over a course of five days. The training curriculum focused on how to choose the right power supply unit according to the quantity/type of LED and correct population of LEDs. The training also included the manufacturing of aluminium channel letters, and wiring of LEDs within the channel lettering. Three of the trainees who passed the final written and practical exam received certificates.
Feedback from the trainees illustrate that they are confident that they can begin a career in the signage industry, having enjoyed their time spent with Exion.
Bruce Badenhorst, Exion director of new business development said, ‘There are a lot of positive things happening in the South African signage industry, even though everybody is encountering a difficult time due to the current economic situation. Our young generation are the future, and so we hope that more young people take part in our training sessions.’
