DS Smith packaging division will open new ways of doing business for its customers from July 2014 with the commissioning of the latest generation HP Scitex 15000, including high performance production plotters.
The production of short runs and individual samples is now not only economical but can be realised in offset quality in a very short period of time. The highest standard of individualisation of products is made possible this way. With this investment in digital printing, the packaging specialist underlines its full service approach and offers flexibility in a new dimension.
Michael Lamprecht, Sales and Marketing Director at DS Smith packaging division D-A-CH said, ‘We work in offset quality and can produce even small quantities quickly and flexibly. In future, small runs and individual samples of displays and products in the promotion sector as well as displays and packaging for trade fairs or test markets can be realised.’
‘With the new high-tech digital printer we can do an even better job of fulfilling the requirements of our customers; it ideally enhances our range. The new flexibility can also be seen in multi-part displays. Whilst the display corpus is printed in high quantities in offset or flexo printing, the toppers can be individualised to the highest standard and, for example, individually digitally produced for certain regions,’ explained Lamprecht. Repeat orders in small quantities will also be rapidly available to DS Smith customers soon, thanks to the use of this new digital technology. A further feature is that smaller quantities of ¼ pallet bases can be produced in one piece. The result is a reduction in setup and adhesive costs.’
The new digital printer not only prints on corrugated paper but also other materials up to a thickness of 25 millimetres. 312 inkjet print heads guarantee a resolution of 600 dpi and 16 grey shades. Printing works with low-emission, UV-hardened pigmented inks in CMYK and, additionally, two light colours, allowing colour grades to be better illustrated.
Furthermore, a refinement with the simulation of a ‘spot coating’ is possible, which is simulated by a partially applied amount of additional colour in that area. With a print capacity of up to 600 square metres per hour at a maximum sheet format of 1 600 x 3 200mm, the machine ensures optimum productivity.
With the implementation of the newest digital printing technology by HP, DS Smith l Packaging Division D-A-CH is extending its own full service range with a decisive component. DS Smith offers every printing process currently in use in packaging printing.
This ensures the company’s customers get the printing process that is best suited to their individual requirements. From this July, customers will benefit from a new dimension of flexibility, time-to-market will become shorter and the level of individualisation of their products will be almost limitless.
