Bovhu Print recently completed a large project for a client relocating to new premises in Aeroton, Johannesburg. The project required new signage with a longer life span (3-5 years) with visibility from the highway during the day and night.
Around 4000 LED’s, Perspex, a square tube inner frame, 3mm ACM (white, red and black), FOREX® and vinyl were used. The installed elements had to be resistant to wind, rain and sunlight.
The project included:
– An 18 x 7m lightbox.
– The total length of all signage was 210 metres.
– Five 3 x 12m free standing pocket and bar billboards, which work on a pocket and bar system, a method where the edges of a very large PVC banner gets welded pockets with a steel rod that runs through the inside. Using steel hooks on a frame, the banner is stretched inside the frame structure.
According to owner and founder Dan van Rensburg, several meetings were held with suppliers to ensure the right products were used: ‘We could not use a scaffold, and so had to use a cherry-picker instead, which slowed down installation.’
The letters were larger than the cherry picker platform and had to be roped up. The manufacturing process took three weeks, and installation (back to back) took two weeks.
The signage was manufactured in-house with no other stakeholders involved. Due to the height and safety aspects of the project, the company’s own qualified Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) staff were involved.
