Matan Digital Printers debuted the Quantum 3.5m super wide-format hybrid UV printer for the first time in Europe, and in an inline coating configuration for the first time worldwide, at FESPA 2015 (18-22 May in Cologne).
The Quantum features three grayscale levels: 7pl, 14pl and 21pl. Standard ink configuration is CMYK, light cyan, light magenta, light black plus optional white. Optional add-ons include a jumbo media handling system for rolls up to 750kg, an ID Backprint device that prints file and job information on the rear of the media, and a Vacuum Plate for turning the printer into a flatbed, which can print on pre-cut sheets of thin media up to 10mm.
The machine, which has a maximum print speed of 200sqm/hr and offers resolutions up to 1200dpi, is specially designed for close-view indoor applications, such as POS and exhibition graphics. On the configuration of the machine shown at FESPA, the protective coating is applied inline with the full speed of the printing, without slowing down production. The ink can also be used to spot varnish selected areas.
