Gawk and TRIGA® exhibited their modular display systems at the 2024 Sign Africa Expo at the Gallagher Convention Centre from 11-13 September 2024. This is a sponsored article.
Sandro Corrado, the Managing Director of Gawk Display, and Alphons Du Toit, Co-Founder of Gawk and owner of TRIGA® Displays, have built two companies that share a powerful synergy. Established in 2015, Gawk has grown alongside TRIGA®, a brand specialising in modular display systems since 2008. Together, they have developed innovative solutions for clients in need of versatile, portable displays.
The Vision For Triga® And Gawk
TRIGA®’s core vision has always been to become the go-to portable display system worldwide. Over the years, the brand has not only cemented itself as a trusted name but has also made strides towards becoming an international leader. The demand from clients for a broader accessory range, including TV brackets, shelving and garment hangers, pushed the team to innovate further.
Corrado and Du Toit recently dedicated six months to developing an accessory latch, allowing seamless integration of custom or standard brackets into the TRIGA® system. This new latch system has opened up a world of possibilities for TRIGA® Displays’ owners, creating an entirely new dimension for modular displays.
Commitment To Local And Global Development
Both Gawk and TRIGA® are firmly rooted in their South African heritage. Corrado emphasised the importance of supporting local suppliers to foster economic growth and maintain control over the materials and manufacturing processes. South Africa’s skilled workforce has proven vital in creating a product that is now exported to six countries, with expansion plans in place. As Corrado pointed out, ‘Companies need to access and use the skills that exist locally.’
Their growth on the global stage has been bolstered by a recent exclusive contract with Showdown Displays, a US-based company with a significant market footprint. TRIGA® is now preparing its first export order for Showdown Displays, providing a standard kit of walls, towers and booths. The accessory range was a key factor in sealing this deal, offering something their competitors lack: a load-bearing portable display system.
TRIGA® Go: The Modular Solution
TRIGA® Go, a modular system for textile graphics, offers unparalleled flexibility and ease of use. Built from just six parts, the system is tool-less, reconfigurable and capable of forming various angles and shapes. Every aspect of TRIGA® Go, from counters and walls to towers and plinths, is designed for maximum adaptability. The system uses heavy-gauge polyester knitted textile prints, secured within the structure using a custom chunk manufactured by TRIGA®.
A key element that sets TRIGA® apart is its patented tensioning device, which works similarly to a push-and-release mechanism on a pen. This ensures perfectly tensioned graphics, creating seamless visuals without the hassle of complex setups. Corrado said that TRIGA® is ‘the Lego of the display world,’ offering endless configuration options that can evolve with client needs.
Gawk and TRIGA®’s Sign Africa expo showcase captivated attendees with cutting-edge designs and sustainable products. Their stand, featuring the versatile TRIGA® Go system and newly launched accessory range, demonstrated the flexibility and functionality that has made TRIGA® a leader in portable displays. Their efforts were recognised when they won first prize for the ‘Small Custom Stand,’ a testament to the creativity, quality and impact of their display solutions at the event.
Innovation And Expansion: The Accessory Range
The latest innovation from TRIGA® is the accessory latch, which unlocks new opportunities for the system. The latch works with a variety of brackets, from TV mounts to shelving capable of supporting up to 30kg. This new development enables TRIGA® Go to accommodate perforated panels, garment hangers and other display enhancements. The system’s versatility is perfect for pop-up shops, retail displays, promotional setups and compact exhibition stands.
TRIGA® has also introduced a magnetic range of accessories. These coded magnetic attachments allow for custom branding without damaging the fabric, adding yet another layer of flexibility to the system. As a result, TRIGA® is no longer just a two-dimensional display system, it’s a dynamic, multi-layered solution for businesses of all sizes.
Sustainability At The Core
Sustainability is a central pillar of TRIGA® and Gawk’s philosophy. TRIGA® is a patron member of the Event Greening Forum, and both companies are passionate about leading the industry towards a more sustainable future. Corrado said, ‘If we want a planet left for our children, sustainability is crucial.’
TRIGA®’s commitment to sustainability extends to the very materials used in its products. The entire system is built to last, often for over 20 years, and all materials are recyclable or upcyclable. Even the textile fabrics, which are consumable elements of the display, can be repurposed into products such as shopping bags or wine coolers. This initiative not only benefits the environment, but also offers businesses a creative way to extend their brand’s life cycle.
TRIGA® also complies with the strictest environmental laws in the US and Europe, setting a high bar for sustainability within the global exhibition industry. As the company expands its global reach, it remains committed to driving the industry towards greener, more responsible practices.
Looking Forward: A Bright Future
With exciting developments on the horizon, TRIGA® and Gawk continue to push boundaries in the display industry. The launch of the accessory range and the international expansion are just the beginning of what promises to be a successful future for both brands. As Du Toit reflected, the journey so far has been rewarding: ‘We’re very excited, especially with the new developments, and winning first prize for our efforts makes it all worthwhile.’
