POLYVANTIS Combines Two High Performance Plastic Powerhouses Under One Roof

POLYVANTIS Africa, under the leadership of Managing Director Holger Morhart, marks an exciting development in the global specialty plastics industry. POLYVANTIS has combined two renowned brands – Plexiglas®, made from PMMA, and LEXAN™, made from polycarbonate – into a single global entity focused on high-performance plastics. Watch the video, where Morhart explains how the merger of Plexiglas® and LEXAN™ has positioned POLYVANTIS as a major player in the industry, offering an extensive range of products under one roof.

Sustainability

Sustainability has become a critical driver across various industries, including high-performance plastics, and POLYVANTIS is no exception. As a responsible global manufacturer, the company places a strong emphasis on sustainability. In 2019, they pioneered a recycling initiative in South Africa, becoming the first high-performance plastics company in the region to implement a comprehensive recycling process. The company collects post-industrial waste from its customers and transforms it into high-performance products. These products, containing up to 90% recycled material, are classified as Green materials and are used in sectors such as retail, as well as for social projects like providing lap desks to schools in rural areas.

Dedicated Customer Training

POLYVANTIS Africa distinguishes itself in the industry by offering dedicated training to its customers, enhancing both skillsets and product quality. The company operates training centres in Johannesburg and Cape Town, where clients are educated on the use of POLYVANTIS materials and how to improve their processes to reduce waste and enhance productivity. This hands-on approach extends to factory audits, where the company provides practical guidance on improving production techniques.

POLYVANTIS At The Sign Africa Expo

POLYVANTIS offers unparalleled variety in high-performance plastics. At the Sign Africa Expo, POLYVANTIS showcased the potential of these materials, demonstrating techniques like reverse UV printing on Plexiglas®. The results are stunning, with prints appearing more vibrant when viewed through the crystal-clear material, offering new possibilities for applications in sectors like retail and design.

One notable display example was a foosball table fabricated from Plexiglas® with a hard-coated surface, which provides exceptional scratch resistance. This foosball table was created by Impressive Designs, a Cape Town-based POLYVANTIS customer who specialises in retail branding. The table showcases the exceptional clarity of the material, polished edges, and perfect glue lines, demonstrating the versatility and high-quality applications of POLYVANTIS products. Watch the video to see the foosball table in action.

Local Acrylic Manufacturer

As the only local manufacturer of acrylic in Southern Africa, POLYVANTIS Africa has significant advantages over competitors, including shorter lead times and strong local support. The disruptions in global supply chains have highlighted the importance of reliable local production, which POLYVANTIS is uniquely positioned to provide.

In addition to its success with Plexiglas®, POLYVANTIS has secured a strong partnership with Maizey Plastics to distribute LEXAN™ products. LEXAN™, known as the world’s leading polycarbonate sheet, is now more accessible to the local market, offering the highest quality and longest warranties.
