Marabu Presented New Ink Solutions

Marabu recently presented an innovative high-performance ink for digital container printing and a BPA-free screen printing ink for brilliant, long-lasting glass decoration. Another new addition to the portfolio is a water-based textile ink for high-quality, textile transfers.

With its new high-performance digital printing ink UltraJet DUV-CP, Marabu is setting new standards in decorative inkjet printing on glass: the innovative high-performance technology enables higher-quality print images at twice the printing speed and overall lower ink consumption.

With the UltraJet DUV-CP, individual effects can be achieved on glass, plastic and metal containers with ink film thicknesses of up to 3 mm. A higher pigment density ensures perfect edge definition even for fine details, high opacity and an overall wider colour gamut. The lower ink consumption saves costs and also eliminates the time-consuming intermediate step of ‘pinning’ the digital ink to the substrate. All this makes decorative inkjet printing with high performance digital inks faster, more economical and a real alternative. At drupa, Marabu showed glass samples printed with the UltraJet DUV-CP on a Koenig & Bauer Kammann machine with Xaar printheads.

For particularly brilliant and long-lasting effects on glass containers and drinking glasses, Marabu presented the new BPA-free screen printing ink UltraGlass LEDGF. The ink series is a hybrid system, i.e. the entire ink series is formulated for LED application, but can be overprinted with a UV-curing protective varnish with maximum transparency.

In this way, the application saves energy at each LED ink station and is as safe and reliable as a UV system. A cost-effective solution, as most presses today are equipped with LED curing and a final UV station. Of course, the UV LED inks can also be cured conventionally with UV light only, so glass manufacturers can use their existing machines without having to make expensive conversions.

Even in printing inks containing BPA, Marabu only uses raw materials in which BPA is only present as a minor impurity in the ppm range. With the new BPA-free UltraGlass LEDGF, the ink manufacturer has gone one step further to eliminate even these small traces and thus fundamentally eliminate the potential risks of BPA. By using the BPA-free glass ink, glass manufacturers can respond to BPA bans in individual countries such as France or to the specifications of well-known brands. Marabu also offers special BPA-free ink systems for food packaging, such as UltraPack UVFP.

MaquaTex MAXT+ is a water based screen printing ink system specially developed for high quality textile transfers on release coated films and papers. By applying an adhesive layer on the reverse side and using a heat transfer press, it is possible to achieve impressive prints on natural and synthetic textiles with a high level of wear comfort. The ink can be used for transfers on jerseys and sportswear, fashion, promotional materials or workwear.

The water-based ink system is ECO-Passport certified and is manufactured at Marabu in Germany according to ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001. MaquaTex MAXT+ meets all requirements for maximum process stability, quality and sustainability. The textile transfer ink is easy to print thanks to the long screen open time for a water-based ink system, the consistently high reproducibility of colour batches and the low need for auxiliaries. The reliable and flexible ink system also works well with digitally printed images. The new MAXT+ guarantees fast turnaround and consistent quality, laying the foundation for high-quality textile transfer printing and satisfied customers.

Functional surfaces have become indispensable in the automotive sector, for household goods or medical devices. Marabu’s MaraMold MPX screen printing ink is the decorative ink solution for technically demanding FIM (Film Insert Moulding) and IME (In Mould Electronics) applications. The growing portfolio includes two non-conductive blacks for functional parts made of PC, ABS, PET and PP. In addition to attractive FIM samples, visitors to the Marabu stand at drupa were able to test demonstrators such as the Mesa Controller from TactoTek®.

Toys, baby products, textiles and medical equipment are sensitive products that require special product safety. It must be ensured that the substrate itself and the printing ink used pose no risk to the consumer. Marabu offers various pad printing inks for this purpose, such as the GMP-compliant TampaTex TPX, as well as water-based spray and brush paint. They are characterised by a gentle formulation and comply with EN 71/3 (‘Toy Directive’) and other strict manufacturers’ specifications.
