3D Fusion announced the recent opening of their filament manufacturing plant in Mossel Bay, which will assist in supplying filament to customers in South Africa.
According to the signage manufacturer and developer for 3D Fusion, Eric Philpott, the roughly 400sqm plant manufactures 1.1kg rolls for ordinary home-made 3D printers, as well as 7.5kg rolls for the company’s 3D printing machines that print up to 70mm/second. The company’s own 3D printers are also built on-site.
The company will be working together with BuildVolume, a company that brings 3D printing into the lives of regular people, and various resellers in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. Due to the fast development of 3D printers, 3D scanners and 3D modelling software, 3D printing is becoming more and more interesting and affordable for personal users.
Another major benefit of the opening of this plant is that it will contribute to job creation. According to Philpott, the company is also in the process of opening a recycling plant for 3D printing filaments.

While currently a product centre, 3D Fusion is planning on implementing training at this facility soon, as well as creating a showroom for 3D printing enthusiasts.
